Code of Conduct for Staff and Students

  1. Preamble

The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment that fosters academic excellence, innovation, and professional development. All members of the engineering college community, affiliated with Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University (KBCNMU), are expected to adhere to the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and accountability.

  1. Code of Conduct for Students

3.1 Academic Integrity

  • Uphold honesty in all academic activities, including coursework, assignments, and examinations.
  • Avoid plagiarism, cheating, and unauthorized collaboration.
  • Acknowledge and credit sources appropriately in academic work.

3.2 Respect for Community

  • Treat peers, faculty, staff, and visitors with respect and dignity.
  • Refrain from any form of discrimination, harassment, or bullying.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive environment.

3.3 Use of Resources

  • Use college facilities, including laboratories, libraries, and equipment, responsibly.
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines in all academic and extracurricular activities.
  • Avoid misuse of technology, including unauthorized access to systems or data.

3.4 Personal Conduct

  • Abide by the college’s policies regarding dress code, punctuality, and attendance.
  • Abstain from the possession or consumption of prohibited substances on campus.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor during internships, industrial visits, and other external engagements.

3.5 Discipline in Hostel

  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in hostel premises.
  • Adhere to curfew timings and other rules established by the hostel authorities.
  • Respect the rights and privacy of fellow residents.
  • Avoid causing disturbances, such as playing loud music or engaging in disruptive activities.
  • Report any incidents or concerns promptly to the hostel warden.

3.6 Sportsmanship

  • Participate in sports and extracurricular activities with integrity and respect for others.
  • Exhibit fair play, teamwork, and mutual respect in all sports and events.
  • Refrain from any actions that may harm the spirit of competition or the reputation of the institution.
  • Support fellow participants and uphold the values of inclusivity and camaraderie.

3.7 Anti-Ragging Laws

  • Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited and punishable under the law. Students must adhere to the provisions of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Anti-Ragging Regulations.
  • Any involvement in ragging will lead to immediate disciplinary action, which may include suspension, expulsion, or legal proceedings.
  • Students are encouraged to report incidents of ragging to the Anti-Ragging Cell or the designated authority.
  1. Code of Conduct for Teaching Faculty

4.1 Professional Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching and ensure timely coverage of the syllabus.
  • Prepare thoroughly for lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to enhance subject knowledge and teaching methodologies.

4.2 Student Interaction

  • Be approachable and supportive, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Provide constructive feedback on assessments and assignments.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with students, avoiding favoritism or bias.

4.3 Academic Integrity

  • Conduct evaluations impartially and transparently.
  • Avoid engaging in or facilitating any form of malpractice or plagiarism.
  • Adhere to institutional policies for research and publication ethics.

4.4 Collegiality and Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in academic, research, and administrative activities.
  • Respect differing perspectives and contribute to a harmonious work environment.
  • Participate actively in institutional initiatives, committees, and governance.

4.5 Ethical Standards

  • Uphold the dignity of the teaching profession and the institution.
  • Avoid conflicts of interest in professional responsibilities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive student or institutional information.

4.6 Contribution to Institutional Development

  • Engage in extracurricular and co-curricular activities that contribute to student development.
  • Participate in community outreach and extension programs.
  • Promote the mission and vision of the institution through exemplary conduct and actions.
  1. Student Council
  • The Student Council serves as a liaison between the student body and the college administration, promoting dialogue and addressing concerns.
  • Responsibilities of the Student Council include organizing student activities, fostering leadership, and ensuring adherence to the Code of Conduct.
  • Members of the Student Council are expected to act as role models and uphold the values of the institution.
  1. Disciplinary Committee

6.1 Responsibilities

  • Investigate and address violations of the Code of Conduct by students and staff.
  • Ensure fair and impartial proceedings in all cases of misconduct.
  • Recommend appropriate disciplinary actions based on the severity of violations.

6.2 Duties

  • Conduct regular reviews of reported incidents and maintain records of proceedings.
  • Collaborate with the Anti-Ragging Cell, Grievance Redressal Committee, and other bodies as needed.
  • Promote awareness of institutional policies and encourage adherence to the Code of Conduct.
  1. Grievance Redressal

7.1 Purpose

The Grievance Redressal mechanism aims to address and resolve concerns or complaints raised by students, staff, or other stakeholders in a fair and timely manner.

7.2 Procedure

  • Submit grievances in writing or through the designated online platform to the Grievance Redressal Committee.
  • Include relevant details, such as the nature of the grievance, supporting evidence, and contact information.
  • The Grievance Redressal Committee will review the complaint and initiate an inquiry if necessary.
  • Resolutions will be communicated to the complainant within a stipulated timeframe.

7.3 Confidentiality

  • All grievances will be handled with the utmost confidentiality.
  • Retaliation against individuals raising grievances in good faith is strictly prohibited.

7.4 Composition of the Committee

  • The Grievance Redressal Committee will include representatives from the faculty, administration, and student body, ensuring balanced representation.
  1. Disciplinary Actions

Violations of the Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary actions, including but not limited to:

  • For Students: Warnings, suspension, or expulsion, depending on the severity of the violation.
  • For Staff: Verbal or written warnings, suspension, or termination of employment.

All violations will be investigated thoroughly and fairly by the designated authorities, ensuring due process.

  1. Reporting and Grievances

9.1 Reporting Violations

  • Report any violations of this Code to the appropriate authority (e.g., Dean, HR, or Ethics Committee).
  • Ensure confidentiality and protection for those reporting violations in good faith.

9.2 Grievance Redressal

  • Students and staff may file grievances through the official channels established by the institution.
  • Grievances will be addressed promptly, transparently, and without prejudice.
  1. Acknowledgment and Commitment

All members of the engineering college community are required to acknowledge their understanding of this Code of Conduct and commit to upholding its principles. Regular workshops and orientation sessions will be conducted to reinforce awareness and compliance.

This Code of Conduct is subject to periodic review and revision to reflect evolving institutional and societal needs.
